The Texas Auto Writers signature spring driving event held at Texas Motor Speedway, the Auto Roundup, was a great opportunity for both TAWA member automakers and the journalist members who go the opportunity to drive the automakers’ latest vehicles to give thoughts, impressions, and evaluations about their drives.
The judges named the Lexus LC 500 the 2022 PERFORMANCE VEHICLE OF TEXAS, and it also won in the category of LUXURY CAR ($65,000 – $100,000) and BEST EXTERIOR in the calculated awards.
Our own honorable mention: Toyota’s 2022 GR86 was a fun and affordable driver. If you’re looking for a sports car around the $30K mark, you’ll be surprised in all you get in all-new GR86!
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 earned two overall awards: CUV of TEXAS and ELECTRIC VEHICLE of TEXAS and BEST PERSONAL APPEAL in the calculated awards. Hyundai’s Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) Function was also named BEST NEW FEATURE. allows you to use the stored energy from electric vehicles high-voltage to recharge an e-bike, or power electrical camping equipment, or some domestic appliances, and this is even possible when the vehicle is turned off.
Chrysler’s Pacifica Hybrid took the overall award for FAMILY VEHICLE OF TEXAS and also won in the calculated (highest points) competition for BEST INTERIOR as well as BEST NEW INTERIOR in the feature awards. The Pacifica Hybrid won the category awards for MINI VAN of Texas and GREEN VEHICLE of Texas.
The Hyundai Elantra took home the category award for PERFORMANCE SEDAN and the calculated award for BEST VALUE.
