2017 Domaine Taupenot-Merme Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Bel Air $190
Completing our series on Burgundy, A.J. McClellan, Certified Sommelier and Founder of Roots and Water, writes, “The small premier cru of Bel Air comes from vines between 47 and 35 years old, lending a quirky complexity to this wine that you do not find in many other vineyards. This wine shines with bright red fruit on the nose showing off cranberry, redcurrant, and ripe red cherry. There is a lingering note of budding red roses that intermingles with the fresh fruit bringing you a overall experience of walking the farmers market in spring. A zippy acidity takes the forefront of the palate lending a wash of crispness to the ripe fruit and floral undertones. As the wine opens in the glass you will find a minutia of vanilla and clove coming from the French oak barrels used to age the wine.”
Stay tuned for the next series of posts on Italian wines.
